Virginia Cronk: Key West Literary Journey

Virginia Cronk lives in Key West, Florida, the island home of many authors. She often sits in Earnest Hemingway’s garden to write. Or Elizabeth Bishop’s when she wants a change. During Tennessee Williams Festival Key West, 2026, Virginia won second prize in the national short story contest.

For the past fifteen years, she has immersed herself in exploring places with adventurous hikes. The Ancient Future, her first novel, is set in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains in northern Colombia.

Virginia, a former sociology professor, sees people, not as just characters, but as an organic part of the setting for the story. The Ancient Future explores the Kogi’s struggle to preserve their ancient lifestyle and their lands.

She and her husband raised three sons to be admirable adults. She has six grandchildren, the youngest is a college student. She tries to instill her love of travel in them.

Virginia’s advice to her readers: “Sometimes your best adventures come later in life, after you think you’ve done it all.”
